The Duomo di Milano is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, and one of the prettiest. It took five centuries to complete (from 1386 to 1858). Dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente. Take a lift to the roof to fully appreciate the spires, the hundreds of statues, the Baroque/Neogothic facade and the Alps in the distance.

Teatro Alla Scala is the world's leading opera theater, with arguably the best acoustics. Home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, Ballet and Orchestra. Many operas premiered here, from works of Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini to the more recent ones

Milan Fashion Week takes place in September and February (womenswear) and January and June (menswear). Catwalk shows are invite-only, but free outdoor shows take place in the Piazza Duomo, by the Arco de la Pace and in the courtyard of the Castello Forzesco. Pre-registration (or dressing up to the nines!) can give you access to many after-parties and events.
