Les Trois Vallées claims to be the largest ski area in the world with 600 km of interconnected slopes and 180 ski lifts. It unites 8 ski resorts: Courchevel, La Tania, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains, Les Menuires, St. Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle

The most chic alpine resort in France, Courchevel features 11 luxury five stars hotels, 6 restaurants awarded with the Michelin star, jet-set, royal clientele, luxury boutiques, and exceptional spas. The slopes at Courchevel are, however, a bit flat and underwhelming, but you have lift access to other, more exciting parts of Trois Vallees.

Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the largest city of the region, sits down by Isere Valley, at 800 m elevation. It is connected by TGV trains to the lowlands of France and by a funicular railway to Les Arc ski resort. Val d'Isere is 17 mi up the valley (30 min by car). Bourg is also a popular summer destination. There is a whitewater slalom course on the Isere river used for international canoe and kayak competitions.

A picturesque pass, 2,200 m / 7,200 ft high, on the Italian border. It is thought that Carthaginian general Hannibal used this route. A challenging bicycle climb from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, 26 km long, 1,350 m (4,400 ft) vertical. The road is closed in winter.
