Balzi Rossi Caves
The name of these caves comes from the rugged morphology of the local area and the reddish colour of the rocks. Homo erectus sought refuge here some 200,000 years ago, making use of the deep caves and vertical crevices in the rock.

Beaches
San Remo has very nice beaches overlooking the cool blue waters of the Ligurian Sea. They are great places to just lay back and relax or take a walk and meet some of the people. There is a nice walkway along part of the beach.

San Remo Music Festival
Attend the now infamous annual Italian music festival. This festival has been going since 1951, and attracts top Italian and international talent each March.

Shopping
Those who like shopping will love the downtown streets, with their typical shops and fashionable "boutiques." Many Italian designer shops can be found in Via Matteotti.

Sunset Walks
Do not miss a walk along the beach at sunset or a stroll though the cobbled streets of the old town. With 400 year old walls and original parts remaining, this is not to be missed.

Bussana Vecchia
This unique ghost village was destroyed by earthquake, and then repopulated by a flourishing colony of artists. Today its numerous workshops belonging to artisans, artists and sculptors contrast with the outlines of still-gutted dwellings and buildings.

Chiesa Russa Ortodossa
Non-Catholic churches are rare in Italy, so make the most of this multicoloured classic which was built for the Russian community. Church was designed by Alexei Shchusev, who later planned Lenin's mausoleum in Moscow.

Old Town La Pigna
The ancient heart of San Remo, loaded with memories and history, the medieval quarter which clings to the hillside. Some steps from market square will take you to ancient houses, alleys, covered passageways, silent little squares, flights of steps and arches.
