Provence Wine Region
Provence is blessed with a fantastic climate, especially for grapes! The region gets lots of sunshine and not too much rain with warm days and cool evenings. The Mediterranean moderates the temperatures and the famous “Mistral” wind keeps the vineyards dry and free of pests.
-
Beaches
There are about 30 beaches along Provence's 100 miles of coast: some locals-only, some show-off, some clothes-off, some family-friendly, some a must for snorkellers or sea kayakers.
-
The Château des Baux
The Château des Baux is a fortified castle built during the 10th century. Although already inhabited in the Bronze Age, Les Baux-de-Provence did not really start growing until the medieval period. Visitors can see full scale replicas of huge siege engines, including the biggest trebuchet in Europe.
-
Abbaye de Montmajour
The abbey is noted for its 11th-14th century graves, carved in the rock, its subterranean crypt, and its massive unfinished church. The abbey and the landscape around it were frequently painted and drawn by Vincent van Gogh.
-
Lavender fields
The colour, the texture, and the scent of a lavender field encapsulate for many the essence of Provence. You can enjoy the lavender fields by car, by bike or on foot. You will find concentrations of lavender fields around the Luberon.
-
The Montagne Ste Victoire
The Montagne Ste Victoire is a breathtakingly charismatic limestone massif, 1000m high, that rears suddenly from the vineyards and lavender fields of rural Provence, South-eastern France.
-
The Pont du Gard
The Pont du Gard is an aqueduct in the south of France constructed by the Roman Empire to supply water to Nîmes, one of the areas key towns. But there are also others Roman sites worth a visit - Vaison la Romaine and Orange for example.
