The history of the Karlovy Vary spa treatment goes back to the 14th century when King Charles IV soaked his wounded body in thermal water. Therapy was gradually developed. Yet sometimes it ran into extremes when it called for half-day continuous baths or excessive drinking cure. Now relaxation massages, whirlpool baths, pleasant warm wraps and packs are available for tourists.

The richest and warmest spring in Karlovy Vary - The Hot Spring can spurt up to the height of 12 m and in 1 minute can shoot up to 2.000 litres of thermal mineral water at the temperature of 72 °C. The Hot Spring is surrounded by the Hot Spring Colonnade

Karlovy Vary is known as the town of colonnades. Their main purpose is to provide the spa patients with comfort during treatments with the prescribed curative springs. The largest spa structure is the Mill Colonnade. The Market, Castle and Hot Spring Colonnade are just a few meters apart.

Diana towers 547 meters above sea level in the spa forests in the vicinity of the Grandhotel Pupp. It was erected in 1914 since when it has been offering a wonderful view of the whole of Karlovy Vary and its surroundings.

The Becher liqueur, or ‘Becherovka’, was first produced by Josef Becher at his chemist shop in 1807 and now there is a musem of his name. First, he sold it in vials as gastric drops. The growing popularity of the drink went hand in hand with the increasing size of the flasks in which the liqueur was decanted under its original name „Carlsbader English Bitter“. Approximately seventy years after the creation of the formula Becherovka began to be filled in typical flat bottles.

It has been named after the famous Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. The Smetana Park is used both for walking, as well as for resting. You can use some of the benches, or you can spread your blanket over the manicured lawn under the pleasant shade of trees. The quiet atmosphere of the park is complemented by the remarkable building of the Elisabeth Spa and the gushing fountain.

Moser is a world-renown luxury glass manufacturer, based in Karlovy Vary. In its factory museum you'll be surrounded by cabinets of historic glass and crystal. The glassworks tour features glass blower craftsmen at work.
