The 16 lakes are all interconnected and follow the water flow. They are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae, and bacteria. The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.

The ride, side to side, across the Kozjak Lake (biggest lake in Plitvice) last approximately 15 minutes, during which you can enjoy in the panoramic view of the lake and its surroundings.

There really is nothing better than to walk through the Park, taking in the beautiful surroundings and admiring the lakes, waterfalls, nature and wildlife. The Plitvice Lakes National Park is heavily forested, and features a mixture of Alpine and Mediterranean vegetation. Rare fauna such as the European brown bear, wolf, eagle, owl, lynx, wild cat and capercaillie can be found there, along with many more common species.

The Caves of Barać, located very close to Plitvice and Rastoka, are just another very fine example of Croatia’s splendid geological blessings. These caves were an important place of habitation for prehistoric humans, and they continue to this day as places of great cultural interest, exploration, and recreation.
