The Getty Villa is a museum of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. The collection has 44,000 antiquities dating from 6,500 BC to 400 AD. Modeled after an Italian country home, the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, the Getty Villa includes beautifully manicured gardens, reflecting pools, and statuary. The largest and most lovely garden, the Outer Peristyle, gives you glorious views over a rectangular reflecting pool and geometric hedges to the Pacific.

The Getty Center is well known for its stunning modernist architecture, gardens, and views overlooking Los Angeles. The Museum's collection is fine, but nothing outstanding, at least if compared to what you would see on the East Coast. Two Breugels here, two Renoirs there, two Van Gogh's -- it's like Noah's Ark :-). Still well worth a visit

The Strand, a bike and skate path stretches for 22 mi mostly along the Pacific Ocean shoreline. It passes by many interesting places, such as the Marina del Rey waterfront area with its boats and numerous restaurants, the Venice Beach shops, and Santa Monica pier. With numerous rest stops and food concessions this gentle, fairly flat path is an easy ride for the entire family.
