  At 282 feet below sea level, it's the lowest point in North America. A boardwalk and signs provide info on the local environment, and a trail leads out onto the salt flats. Here repeated freeze–thaw and evaporation cycles gradually push the thin salt crust into hexagonal honeycomb shapes.
  
  

• Devil's Golf Course
  

  
  A bizarre landscape consisting of a vast field of salt crystals. Please admire these carefully! A slight touch can break the crystals, which often take years to re-form.
  
  

• Artist Drive
  

  
  The rocks within this section of the park have been stained myriad colors by minerals within, creating a view that resembles an artist's palette.
  
  

• Sand Dunes
  

  
  Most people think sand dunes are common in the desert. They aren't. There are two interesting areas of sand dunes in Death Valley. The largest is Eureka Dunes, accessible only to adventurous backcountry folks. This smaller set of dunes near Stovepipe Wells is still quite impressive.
  
  

• Hiking
  

  
  There are numerous trails within the park, ranging in difficulty from short loops to overnight, mountainous treks.
  
  

• Furnace Creek Golf Course
  

  
  The Furnace Creek Golf Course (originally Death Valley Golf Course) attached to the Ranch claims to be the lowest in the world, at 214 feet (65 m) below sea level.
  
  

• Dante's View
  

  
  Dante's View is a viewpoint terrace at 1,669 m (5,476 ft) height, overlooking Death Valley. From the Dante's View parking lot, visitors can take several paths, one of which leads to the very brink of the edge, offering a dramatic panoramic view. Dante's View is an excellent venue for night time star viewing with telescopes.
  
  

• Furnace Creek
  

  
  The Furnace Creek Inn and Ranch Resort is a privately owned luxury resort in Death Valley. There are historical Inn and Ranch here, where the hottest temperature was recorded on earth at 56.7 °C (134 °F) . The Borax museum here features borax mining tools and equipment of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, models of Twenty-mule team wagon trains, pioneer artifacts and mineral specimens.
