Hurghada is a beach resort, where thousands of Europeans and others come with their families to enjoy the sun and fun of private resort beaches, many all inclusive. Often, the larger resorts have zoos, playgrounds, discos, bars, a number of pools and even small theaters.
-
No trip to Hurghada would be complete without exploring the underwater world of the Red Sea. The unique underwater gardens offshore are some of the finest in the world, justifiably famous amongst divers.
-
Hurghada is a popular kite- and windsurfing spot. It is windy all year-round, peaking between June and October. A variety of other water sports are available. You can spend time aboard a sailboat, or a larger ship, or paddle around in a smaller sea kayak. You can go slowly with a pedal boat, or take a banana ride.
-
Camel riding across Biblical desert to see remote and ancient wonders, watch the sunset and experience nomads' life.
-
Combine adventure with dramatic desert scenery, as you take to the sands on a quad bike, using the sunset against the mountains as your backdrop. Negotiate the sand dunes and canyons that make up this unique landscape and open the throttle to speed through the plains.
-
The old part of the town (El Dahar) boasts a traditional Egyptian bazaar. Practice haggling before you head out – it’s expected, and part of the fun!

Luxor is 200 mi / 4.5 hr away -- one-day bus excursions are available. Leave at 6 am, sleep on the bus, then do all day drive-by-sightseeing, then doze off on the way back. Luxor has frequently been characterized as the "world's greatest open air museum", as the ruins of the temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor, long buried beneath desert sands, stand within the modern city. Immediately opposite, across the River Nile, lie the monuments, temples and tombs on the West Bank Necropolis, which include the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Also see Medinet Habu, the Mortuary Temple of Rameses III.
