Attractions and sights
-
Canoeing on the river above the falls, is a nice way to see some wildlife and relax. Canoeing is best described as "drifting" at walking pace with the flow of the river.
-
White water rafting, on the river below the falls, spectacular and quite hair raising. The tour includes a full day of shooting some of the best rapids in the world.
-
Mosikalamosikala (meaning "The Smoke That Thunders"), commonly known as Victoria Falls, is one of the most amazing sights in the world: twice as tall as Niagara Falls and several times longer.
-
Bungee-jumping or bungee swing is a good way to fly yourself off.
-
A famous feature is the naturally formed Devil's Pool, near the edge of the falls. A rock barrier forms an eddy with minimal current, allowing adventurous swimmers to splash around in relative safety a few feet from the point where the water cascades over the falls.
-
Microlight flight over the gorge is a popular activity. At present, this is possible from the Zambia side only.

When to go
|
Best time to go:
The best time to see the Falls is from February to May - after the rainy season. This is when you'll see the greatest flow of water.
But it's not good for safari. The June - August period is the best time to combine Victoria Falls with safari: you'll get good game viewing and still plenty of water thundering over the falls.
Warning:
The Victoria Falls lies within what is commonly described as a low risk malaria area, however you may still take prophylaxis.
Yellow Fever: if entering through Zambia, a vaccination certificate may be required. None, if via Zimbabwe.
Unsafe all-around but heavily guarded by armed hotel guards and tourist police. Sometimes, it may feel there are more tourist police than tourists.
How to get there
By plane, either to Livingstone (Zambia) or Victoria Falls Airport (Zimbabwe). Two separate visas, and visa fees, are required to see the both parts of the falls.
