There are many of pathways and viewing platforms along the cliff edge that allow the visitor to enjoy a spectacular and healthy cliff walk. The amazing views of the Cliffs, the famous Aran Islands, Kerry mountains, Galway Bay, O’Briens Tower and the thousands of seabirds make the Cliffs a magical place.

There are a number of marked cycling routes throughout the area. Bike hire is available throughout the county with electric bikes also on offer.

Surfing at the Cliffs of Moher really began around 2005 with a small crew of local surfers used jet skis to tow each other into the wave that was to become known as “Aileens”. “Aileens” forces the waves to jack up and creates well shaped but very heavy right hand barrels. The wave can range from 10 to 30 plus feet in height and has attracted expert and professional surfers from around the globe.

The Cliffs of Moher is ideal for bird watching, it is home to Ireland’s largest mainland seabird nesting colony, with 20 species of nesting birds, including 9 species of breeding seabirds, and up to 30,000 breeding pairs.

Doolin, a seaside village conveniently situated just 8 km from the cliffs – and a worthy destination in itself. Rumored to be the inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien it’s a tranquil setting of folkloric fantasy with cozy cottages, country B&Bs and shopkeepers well-stocked with Irish crafts and hand-knitted sweaters.
